Bernard Hopkins: all that and more

B-Hop came to school yesterday. He came to dedicate the great new playground area he funded in the lower school yard. He came to show appreciation for the great teachers who helped him through school - several of whom were on hand for the event. He came to show kids what it means to give back.

And he took some people to school along the way. In addition to the five-figure donation for the playground, Hopkins announced that he's also giving enough new computers to fill a lab. With TV cameras focused, Hopkins acknowledged that he's the first alumnus to make a significant contribution to the school, but he hopes others will join him. As we talked afterwards, he offered to call some of those others to encourage them to step into the ring with him. OK, not in the ring, but, well you know.

It's amazing how Bernard can stay as a top fighter at his age. It is rare in boxing t5hat a fighter can still dominate at a relatively advanced age. In my opinion, he is one of the best middle weights of all time.
